Welcome everyone to Season 1, episode 1 of the Inside American Politics Podcast. I'm Robbie Woods, your host, and today we're diving deep into the fundamentals of American politics, a topic that touches every aspect of our lives. Whether we realize it or not, politics isn't just about what happens in Washington DC. It's about the laws that govern us, the opportunities we have and the values that we uphold as a society. Understanding politics is essential because it shapes our future and influences our everyday decisions. So why does it matter? At its core, american politics operates within a framework of a democratic republic. This means we elect representatives to make decisions on our behalf. Unlike a pure democracy where every citizen votes on every issue, we entrust elected officials to enact policies that reflect our collective will. It's crucial to distinguish this from autocracies, where power is centralized in the hands of a single leader or a small group. Countries like China, russia, north Korea, hungary exemplify autocratic systems where leaders wield immense control over their nation's governance, without democratic checks or balances. In contrast, the United States stands as a beacon of democracy, where our participation through voting and civic engagement ensures that our voices are heard and our values are represented. Americans going to the polls and casting their individual vote for elected officials they want to represent them in our American government is the democracy element to our democratic republic. Now I'm going to repeat that one more time. This is very important. If you're a Republican, please pay strict attention to this. Americans going to the polls and casting their individual vote for the elected officials they want to represent them in our American government is the democracy element to our democratic republic. Very simple To illustrate.
Speaker 1:Consider recent political figures Donald Trump and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Trump's presidency often mirrored autocratic tendencies, emphasizing executive authority and challenging democratic norms. His approach raised debates about the balance between strong leadership and democratic principles. His siding and cozying up with and befriending our foreign enemies like Putin, kim Jong-un and Viktor Orban. He said if NATO countries where at NATO's core lies Article 5, the principle of a collective defense, under which all members agree that if one member country is attacked by a third party, the whole alliance will come to its aid. Donald Trump said, if they don't pay up and Russia attacked their country, america would not come to their aid. And Donald Trump quotes Adolf Hitler straight out of Hitler's manifesto Mein Kampf.
Speaker 1:Conversely, a Kamala Harris presidency will represent a commitment to democratic ideas and American norms, focusing on inclusivity, transparency and respect for democratic institutions and our norms. As did Joe Biden's presidency, her administration will strive to heal divisions and strengthen democratic processes. Kamala Harris stands for expanding voting rights, and she and President Joe Biden have the accomplishments, such as record job creation, lowering medication prices, the PAC Act for our military soldiers and bringing back the American economy. That, under Donald Trump, was one of the worst recessions in American history, only third to the Great Depression of the early 1900s and the Great Recession under Republican George W Bush. The stock market is soaring, setting new records one after the other. Kamala Harris stands for a woman's right to choose when it comes to their reproductive rights that Donald Trump, in conjunction with the fastest mega Republican Supreme Court, took away from women, took away from women. Looking ahead to the 2024 presidential election, these distinctions are more pertinent than ever. The choices we make at the ballot box will shape the direction of our nation, whether we uphold democratic values or risk undermining them for authoritarian alternatives.
Speaker 1:Germany was a democracy before Adolf Hitler took over. Let me repeat that one more time. If you're a Republican, pay attention to this. Germany was a democracy also before Adolf Hitler took over. Hitler even led a coup attempt in November of 1923. Sound familiar? Never forget how MAGA fascist Republicans cult and their terrorist cells attacked America on January 6th in an effort to stop the certification of our free and fair democratic election and to overthrow our United States Constitution and our government in a coup attempt so Donald Trump could stay in power. And stay in office and seize power and assume an authoritarian dictatorship. It was ineffective and the Union remained intact. As for Adolf Hitler, his coup attempt was also utterly ineffective. Hitler was imprisoned and the Nazi party was outlawed by the court. Hitler was freed by the end of 1924, having served a comparatively short sentence, but his days in politics were not yet ended. Adolf Hitler penned Mein Kampf, his manifesto that Donald Trump loves to quote from outlining his goals for Germany while he was incarcerated. And Donald Trump's fastest manifesto Project 2025, is very similar to Adolf Hitler's blueprint manifesto.
Speaker 1:The Nazis were to follow the law going forward and attempt to seize power through elections. By the end of the 1920s, the economic crisis had begun, which was to their advantage. Taking advantage of the turmoil, the Nazis denounced both the Versailles Peace Deal and the government. Their plan worked well. The Nazi party received .8 million more voters in the 1928 elections and that number increased up to 6.4 million in 1930. So why should you care? Because politics isn't just for politicians, it's for everyone. Your engagement in the political process, from voting to staying informed, directly impacts the policies that affect your life and the lives of future
Speaker 1:generations. Magna fascist Republicans, the modern day Nazi party and Donald Trump, the modern day Adolf Hitler, adolf Hitler 2.0, are trying to turn America into the old Nazi Germany, like Adolf Hitler did to Germany. They are boldly and brazenly, without shame or a moral compass, doing this out in the open. It's obvious to everyone who is not a moron and you can bet your sweet bippy, not all Americans are morons. This 2024 presidential election is America or a MAGA fascist, nazi party. What future do you want to leave for your children and future offsprings? Your vote will be the most consequential vote in American history, not just the presidential vote either. These fascist MAGA Republicans are embedded in our US Congress, state houses, governorships, our courts and our city councils, and every one of them has to be voted out to save our American Union and democracy. Every vote in every municipality is a vote for American democracy and to save the Union or for MAGA Republican, nazi fascism. It's a choice no different than 1930 of
Speaker 1:Germany. Those who do not remember the past are bound to relive it. History is meant to be learned from, not to be relived or erased. Understanding these dynamics empowers us to make informed decisions and safeguard the principles that define our democracy. It ensures that our government remains accountable and responsive to the needs of all americans, regardless of background or belief.
